For much of history, the relations between Atraeth and Virassia have generally been complex and hostile, shaped primarily by competing imperialist interests, with direct and proxy warfare against one-another actively participated in by both sides. Originally a spanning Empire that spread across the continent of Amlei, from east coast to west, Virassia's decline has notably been in tandem with the rise of Atraeth, amongst other nations locally and intercontinentally. Atraeth itself has played a key part in Virassia's several century-long decline, including the conquest of its northeastern vassals that once reigned in the now long-standing Atraelish Amleian territory, and the funding of numerous rebellions and successions that have shrunk Virassia down to its present size, with a notable mention of the Independent Republic of Nicimia, with the Atraelish funded Nicimian Revolution bringing it into existence and completely cutting off Virassia's access to the sea and its colonies, landlocking the country.
