The Imperial Republic of Atraeth (Atraelish: Caserlic Republic of Atraeth, pronounced ?/ˈeɪ.trəθ/; ay-trəth), also known as the Atraelish Empire or simply Atraeth, is a global power and the point-of-view nation of the Industria Pacificum universe. A proud and nationalistic state, Atraeth has been characterised as a decisively militaristic and autocratic republic with a consistently technologically advanced land army and navy that is frequently regarded as the strongest in the world.
Atraeth has for the past several hundred years steadily risen to become a world power, and during the 20th century was regarded as the world leader in technological and economic growth, replacing the waning trade power of Xhequa as the torchbearer of eastern Amulndian culture, and superseding Etruarand as both the world's chief colonial power and largest economy. At its peak, its rivals were few, with only the other global powers of Etruarand and Saeyri - and to a lesser extent the emerging world powers of Sine Weythern and Yashurhiel - capable of challenging its global domination.
History[edit | edit source]
Fall of the Amulndian Empire[edit | edit source]
Provina Atraedia declares itself as an independent nation during the fall of the Amulndian Empire, becoming the Kingdom of Atraedia. Later, over a disputed succession, the nation splits into West and East Atraedia.
Formation of The Kingdom of Atraeth[edit | edit source]
East Atraedia conquers much of West Atraedia, re-unifying the heartlands of the former Amulndian Empire, adopting its imperial symbols and declaring itself as the Empire's rightful successor.
Kiros-Solex Schism[edit | edit source]
Disputes between the Igniscist clergy over Amulndian succession split the church into the Classical Church, headed by Xhequa, and the Reformed Church, headed by Atraeth.
Conquest of Hobria[edit | edit source]
Seeking to expand, Atraeth pushes north.
Colonial war with Virassia[edit | edit source]
War over the Fascae Peninsula with Virassia.
Conquest of Pyorencia[edit | edit source]
Conquers Pyorencia in the wake the Thirty Year War
Westernisation[edit | edit source]
Aided by its control of the western, modern nation of Pyorenica, Atraeth reforms its culture, infrastructure, government and particularly military to better compete with the west.
End of the monarchy[edit | edit source]
Lensua Tragedy sees the assasination of the Atraelish Royal Family, extinguishing the Atraelish monarchy, with the crown having no clear heir. Esmond Beckwith, 1st Laird of Solex -holding the position of Steward within the Royal Court prior to the tragedy - assumes leadership of the Atraelish Empire. Proclaimed that he would hold the position "until such time that a suitable heir of agreeable character could be found." Died before such a candidate was deemed eligible to hold the Atraelish Crown.
Atrae-Seonmi Wars[edit | edit source]
Wers between the two great powers heat up as their imperial ambitions clash.
Colonialism[edit | edit source]
Atraeth conquers Justavka, forming Atraelish Neira, and colonises the island of Kajura in the Inner Sea to form Atraelish Urcinne.
Great Crash[edit | edit source]
Great Crash ruins the global economy, however Atraeth's large degree of economic autonomy - and important financial decisions made by the Atraelish government in the wake of the crash -allows it to instead prosper.
First World War[edit | edit source]
Flung into first world war because their Yumeran allies wanted to start a war.
Second World War[edit | edit source]
We'll do it right this time.
Post-war period[edit | edit source]
Post-war boom.
Third World War[edit | edit source]
Back from the dead. Loses the war, and has to deal with the civil rights struggle.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Politics[edit | edit source]
Governance[edit | edit source]
Atraeth is ruled by a one-party state organised into a strict hierarchical structure, with a lumbering bureaucracy at its base. Atraelish law guarantees the principles of democratic rule by the masses and a state dedicated to the benefit of the Atraelish country and people, however in practice those in power are not directly elected and have a dictatorial slant.
High Lease[edit | edit source]
The High Lease is the upper house of the government, and is comprised of the key leaders of the Atraelish state selected by the Steward.
- Steward - The face of the party and the state as a whole. They are elected into the position by the Court of Governors, serving a five year term whereupon they are eligible to stand for re-election indefinitely until they are defeated or die in office. Whilst allowed some power over legislation, the Steward’s chief role is maintaining intimate public relations and keeping the party’s integrity in check by selecting and managing its officials. Has absolute power to promote, demote or fire any other member of the party. Also tasked with maintaining existing bills and verifying the adherence of bills to the constitution. Elected and fired only by joint majority party consensus and popular vote. The position was formerly responsible for representing the King in the royal court before the dissolution of the Atraelish monarchy after the Lensua Tragedy.
- High-leader - Chief executive of the party and the Imperial Republic, responsible for overseeing and managing key decisions of the party, traditionally appointed to the post by the Steward at the beginning of his term. Is tasked with the passing, omission or alteration of bills after a majority consensus is reached by the party. Has the final authority for the legality of bills, and his opinion is highly regarded. Can personally implement and suggest the omission or alteration of bills.
- Stand-leader - Short for Stand-in Leader. Vice executive of the party. Tasked with heading national intelligence, and manages the confrontation of and rooting out of enemies of the state. Can personally implement and suggest the omission or alteration of bills.
Low Lease[edit | edit source]
The Low Lease is the lower house of the government, comprised of party members selected by the High Lease.
- High-general of the Lease - High-general of the Royal Atraeth Guard and Chief executive of the Department of National Defence, which oversees the entire national defence force. Is tasked with matters of national security, and can personally implement and suggest the omission or alteration of bills. This is the only position that requires the appointed official to have served a minimum of fifteen years in the armed forces as an officer to be eligible for the role. The current bearer of this position is Oliver Fraser.
- Leader of Foreign Relations - Chief executive of the Department of Foreign Relations. Is tasked with heading diplomatic relations with other nations, as well as the management of Atraeth's colonies, which involves keeping tabs on colonial viceroys. Can personally implement and suggest the omission or alteration of bills. The current bearer of this position is Antero Makinen.
- Leader of Public Projects - Chief executive of the Department of Public Projects, manages national infrastructure. This minister's direct involvement with public projects and affairs results in him being seen as a major democratic layer of the party by the masses, though his decisions can never truly threaten the decisions of the state. Can personally implement and suggest the omission or alteration of bills.
- Leader of Health and Education - Chief executive of the Department of Health, tasked with administrating the funding and development of healthcare and public and private education. Can personally implement and suggest the omission or alteration of bills.
- Leader of Industry - Chief executive of the Department of Industry, tasked with heading national spending on industry, as well as state relations with and regulation of the economy. Can personally implement and suggest the omission or alteration of bills.
Court of Governors[edit | edit source]
The Court of Governors comprises the fifteen state governors who are directly elected from a pool of candidates by popular vote every five years. They also form the pool of eligible candidates to be selected to hold the position of Steward, High-Leader and Stand-Leader. Low Lease positions are traditionally given to state governors, although unelected officials have been granted membership of the Low Lease in exceptional circumstances.
Departments[edit | edit source]
The heads of departments, in addition to managing their department, employ various sub-ministers to aid in their administration, some of whom are permanent positions, with others being circumstantial roles whose titles vary depending on their specialisations.
- Department of National Defence - features three permanent managerial positions, held by the High-Generals of the Imperial Atraeth Army, Imperial Atraeth Navy and Imperial Atraeth Air Force. Although the opinion of the head of the Department of National Defence - the High-general of the Lease - is legally considered final for questions regarding national defence, throughout history the opinions of the High-general of the Lease have occasionally been disregarded by other generals, with some of these incidents resulting in heated internal conflicts within the state.
- Department of Foreign Relations - currently features six permanent managerial positions, two colonial viceroys: the Chief Viceroy of Atraelish Neira and the Chief Viceroy of Atraelish Urcinne; and the four presidents of the Atraelish protectorates of Estoil, Jovara, Kannas and Pegard.
- Department of Industry - headed by a board of key corporate managers of Atraeth's most vital companies, which consult the Chief Executive of the department and aid his decisions.
Below each of the departments' managerial layers are the administrators of the departments themselves, who collectively comprise of the rank and file of the state.
Administrative Divisions[edit | edit source]
Atraeth is divided into 15 states and three territories. Its area of influence also extends to include 4 independent protectorates, which are de facto puppet states of the Atraelish government.

Military[edit | edit source]
The Imperial Atraeth Army acts as Atraeth's mainline military force. It is divided into four segments; the Atraeth Regulars Corps, the Atraeth Colonial Corps, the Atraeth Territorial Corps and the Royal Atraeth Guard. The Atraeth Regulars are a volunteer force recruited from mainland Atraeth, the Atraeth Colonial Corps are a mix of brigades and divisions from Atraeth's major colonies, the Atraeth Territorial Corps are conscripted forces while the Royal Atraeth Guard are a volunteer force that act as the praetorian guard and political wing of the Atraeth armed forces. There is a great level of competition between the armed forces for new officers, with the Royal Atraeth Guard and Territorial Corps seeing a greater number of officer recruits. This has left the Territorial Corps in a somewhat poor shape in recent years, drained of younger, more tactically minded officers and left reliant on older, less pragmatic reservists. The Colonial Corps officers are largely taken from the officer corps of the Royal Atraeth Guard and Territorial Corps, though officers from "the native stock" do exist on lower levels.
Atraeth also boasts a notable navy, known as the Royal Atraeth Navy. A vast armada of warships and vessels, the Royal Atraeth Navy possesses its own Marine Corps and sees a notable influence over the rest of the military. Atraeth's naval force exists to protect its colonies and trade routes. The Royal Atraeth Navy has in recent years seen a decline, with its rivalry with the Army seeings its technology fall into decline in some areas, while also seeing it's potential officers whisked off into the Royal Guard.
Atraeth's military stands at the foremost of modern technology, with entire divisions of Tankettes, Bedbugs, and Land Ships at their disposal. Atraeth was the first power to make use of tanks and self-propelled artillery, while among the first to see widespread use of automatic weaponry and aircraft. While not all of these technological endeavours have been particularly effective, they have shown that Atraeth has a strong industrial and technological power house it can make use of in case of a conflict with its neighbour(s). Most of these new "Tank" regiments and divisions are kept near Atraeth's borders, though Atraeth's promise they are "ready to move at any time" might not be as true as it claims.
Police force[edit | edit source]
Legal system[edit | edit source]
Foreign Policy[edit | edit source]
Atraeth's foreign policy is largely based around expansionism through puppet states led by Atraeth officers. Those nation states around the borders of Atraeth, while not populated by Atraeth peoples, have seen their populations heavily influenced by the Atraeth culture and ideology to the point of which the older cultures that existed within these lands has almost totally disappeared after long periods of iconoclast activity and a move towards Atraeth out of fear of Saeyri's own rampant expansionism. In fact, the militaries of nations around Atraeth's southern border are largely made up of former foreign volunteers that were part of the Atraeth army.

Culture[edit | edit source]
Atraelish culture is a fusion of traditional eastern Amulndian culture that largely stagnated following the collapse of the empire and the influence of Amleian, specifically Pyorencian, culture, much of which is owed to its process of westernisation after 1500 CE. Some scholars also cite some degree of cultural influence from Hobria, the collective name for the native clans of the northern Atraelish peninsula, with many Hobrien warbands picking off and annexing large portions of former Amulndian lands following the collapse and splintering of the Empire. This however this is widely denied by many mainstream Atraelish historians, most likely due to the fact that it presents a serious challenge to the romanticised Atraelish ideology of the nation's direct cultural descent from the eastern Amulndian Empire.
