Grammar[edit | edit source]
Main article: Mordrasi grammar
Mordrasi is a synthetic[2] language, characterised by a relatively small wordstock that is supplemented by a much wider array of morphemes that achieves a comparatively diverse vocabulary.
Like its sister language Amulni, Mordrasi is commonly referred to as a language of shifting vowels. Most key ideas are expressed as "scaffolds" of consonants, where they are then filled in with vowels depending on the kind of concept they refer to. Unlike Amulni, however, the vowel sequences for many Mordrasi words are often irregular, especially for vowel sequences used for signifying different words for similar concepts (though sequences used for grammatical information have largely remained, although have undergone sound changes that render them differently to Amulni sequences). The consonant sequence "ვწსჰ" (lit.SGNZ), when using a "default" vowel sequence "I-U", becomes Signuz, which means "writing". Similar terms like "text", "book", or "library" and so fourth, are expressed with different vowel sequences (Signoz, Sagnoz, and Sagneiz respectively). In Amulni, other words and their variants would use identical vowel sequences for "default" words and their variants, whereas Mordrasi often does not, with vowel sequences for each word instead having to be memorised.
Adjectives and adverbs appear as consonant clusters, but instead assume the vowel pattern of the words they are attached to rather than making their own. This is known as vowel harmony.
The vowels in verbs alter to establish possession and location. Due to so frequently being used as enclitics (suffixes) to nouns with pre-established context, altered vowels are often left out entirely, with the verbs instead also following the vowel harmony of the noun they refer to, much like adjectives and adverbs.
Mordrasi is a gendered language: meaning that words are categorised into five groups (i.e. genders), with article-signified genders being masculine, feminine and neuter, and word-signified genders being animate and inanimate. Sentences are normally ordered as subject-verb-object (SVO).
Alphabet[edit | edit source]
Mordrasi is written in the Amulndian writing system, much like its sister language Amulni, however some dialects use the additional letter (ı) - and its various diacritics - causing the writing system to function as an alphabet rather than an abjad.
