Ruuv was a nation with a strong maritime tradition that during the reign of its only Emperor Philip Kitatto (from 1117 CE to 1168 CE), commanded a vast thalassocracy that stretched from the south of the Kingdom of Atraeth in the north to Akkaorrib in the south. At the height of its power the Empire of Ruuv had absolute naval supremacy across the western coast of Cymlun, with its innovative cog variant known as the Ruuvan hulk securing it a naval dominance equalled only by the Hobrian longship.
Though its land empire was no more following the death of Philip Kitatto, Ruuv maintained its naval dominance well into the late 14th century before its ship technologies were imitated by neighbouring empires, with the invention of caravel and later the Atraethean carrack beyond Ruuvan borders spelling a definite end to its technological edge at sea, its dominance of the west Cymluni coasts was firmly supplanted by the rising Kingdom of Atraeth.
