The Virassian Republic (?/vɪ.ˈræ.siː.ə/; Virassian: Վռսկըննա Ռէսպօբլիկօ tr. Loudspeaker.svg.png Vrskanna Respubliku) known in historical terms as the Third Virassian Republic is a nation in central Amlei and post-Civil Rights Movement incarnation of the Virassian nation-state.

Virassia has been characterised historically by its cultural, religious and political descent from both the Amulndian Empire and the native Ewigic clans of Amlei. The Kingdom of Virassia was first unified in 1001 CE, and was an Amulndian-speaking nation of Ewigic peoples descended from barbarian clans who in the centuries prior had assimilated into the Empire. Unlike similar populations on the northern coast, the local central Amleian clans chose to reject Amulndian Polytheism and much of the Empire's culture, a gesture accepted by the ruling priests of the Empire partially due to its then relaxed stance on religious diversity, but primarily due to economic necessity and the fear of rebellion. This fear that would later prove quite well-grounded during the late Empire's decent into religious zealotry in an attempt to unify its war-ravaged, disparate population, with the regions now comprising much of modern Virassia succeeding from the Empire and splintering into independent Kingdoms.

After the nation's foundation, Virassia rose to become a continental power during much of the late middle ages, and a world power during the colonial and early modern eras. However in the centuries since, the once great Virassian Empire experienced a protracted decline, characterised by economic stagnation, the rebellion and succession of several national minorities, and numerous civil wars. By the 20th century the Virassian nation was an ossified husk of its former self, presided over an incompetent and brittle state apparatus unwilling to weaken its still predominately feudal grip over the nation's working and peasant classes, with the national bourgeoisie too terrified to challenge its dominion in a manner similar to what occurred in the more advanced countries of Etruarand and Atraeth. As the Great Crash swept across Amlei in 1890, the nation was swiftly plunged into a deep crisis, fuelling widespread discontent, most especially in the long-exploited workers and peasantry, sparking what would eventually become known as the Virassian Civil War.

First and Second Virassian Republic (1901 - 1993)[edit | edit source]

Main article: Schamiltist Virassia

Virassia remained a de facto military dictatorship under the rule of Wassen Schamilte until his death in 1939. Following a brief political crisis and a civil unrest, Virassia's thoroughly unelected government was transitioned to an autocratic one-party republic modelled off the Atraelish system, and Schamilte's clique retained its complete power over the nation, with the Virassian nationalist narrative and Schamiltist cult of personality dominating the nation until the regime's collapse.

Third Republic (after 1993)[edit | edit source]

In the heat of the Civil Rights Movement that began in 1993, the old Virassian regime finally abdicated, and was replaced by a multi-party democratic system.
