The Virassian Succession Crisis, also known as the Ninety Year War, was a series of conflicts waged from 1302 to 1396 by the House of Asterune, rulers of Amulna, against the House of Oderanv, rulers of Oderanv Monarchy, for control of the throne of Virassia. Each side drew multiple allies into the war and by its end had involved most other nations on Amlei either directly or indirectly, one of the most notable wars of the medieval era with 4 generations of royalty fighting for control of the most powerful throne on the continent.
Background[edit | edit source]
In November of 1301, King Dzorge III of Virassia died at the young age of 22 from a sudden affliction. Dying before being able to produce any heirs threw the Virassian court into turmoil as conflict arose over who would succeed, his sister Sigrid was technically next in line for the throne but the questionable practice of female succession aswell as accusations of an assassination conspiracy around the late King led to a challenging of the succession both internally and externally. The war properly began when on the eve of 1302 Grand Duccassor Johan of Amulna and Emperor of the Emsthe Aralasta delcared himself as de jure King of Virassia declaring that common feudal law precluded royal inheritance by a woman aswell as old and questionable lineage ties to claim the title for House Asterune.
