For the royal house, see: House of Chasteuila

The Virassian Empire under the rulership of the Chasteuilas saw the nation-state of Virassia expand to its greatest historical size, with a formidable imperial authority and reach that largely defined the politics of the continent of Amlei from the 15th until the late 17th century. Though a Great Power in its time and a world leader in technological development, subsequent decades of Michlinof-era anti-Astralist and anti-Imlynan racism have disparaged the Empire's cultural and technological legacy, with ethnic Virassian nationalism instead romanticising the preceding Oderanv Monarchy as well as the House of Michlinof itself. By the 18th century the Chasteuilan Virassian Empire began to fall from grace due to a number of factors, eventually buckling to the rise of the Etruarac Empire after losing a significant tract of its well-developed western regions to Etruaracs by 1701 in the aftermath of the Wars of the Western Coast.
