The Atrae-Seonmi War was an armed conflict in Cymlun that is widely considered to be the biggest military disaster in Atraelish history, and is generally regarded as the final act of the Seonmi Stagnation that had gripped the State of Saeyri for the last two centuries.

Background[edit | edit source]

After the demise of the Tainzang Dynasty in 1607 CE, the Seonmi Empire collapsed, with the Kingdom of Saeyri formed from the remains of the once prosperous nation. With reduced borders, the nation stagnated for two centuries under the kings of the Kutsumo Dynasty. Technologically backwards, and with an endemic opiate addiction spread throughout the populace, Saeyri struggled to keep up with the development of the rising world powers. For decades Saeyri had become increasingly dependent upon trade from Amulna, Atraeth and Etruarand in order to sustain the failing economy, with many foreign enterprises setting up in Seonmi lands. A series of wars with the colonial power of Virassia had weakened the Seonmi military considerably, and by 1814 CE the kingdom appeared to be on the verge of collapse.

Atraeth had long been looking to remove Saeyri as a potential threat to their growing realm and the unrest created by secessionist Seonmi warlords in the northern territories only served to heighten this impetus to permanently neuter the nation; as reports of raids conducted within the lands of their client state of Ruuvattu emerged. Plans were drawn up for a decapitation strike against the capital of the Kingdom of Saeyri with the intent of installing a puppet leader once the Kutsumo Dynasty had been eliminated. On February 24th, Kaedan Walden, son of a prominent Atraelish colonial general, was promoted to Field Marshall of the 1st Atraeth Army and tasked with routing the enemy forces from Ruuvattu. Walden was also given secondary orders to march his troops into Saeyri and head for the capital after Ruuvattu has been secured.

Prelude[edit | edit source]

Sacking of Ilasaa[edit | edit source]

On February 26th, following a disastrous campaign in the Laptsai Mountains to gain control of the Malong Valley, the forces loyal to the Seonmi Warlord Deizaim Zhoujan sacked the Ruuvattan border city of Ilasaa in order to acquire supplies; as the general considered his next moves in the northern territories of Saeyri. On March 1st, the warlord's scouts report that a large army is marching southwards, bearing the Atraeth coat of arms. After calling a brief meeting with his commanders, Zhoujan chooses to withdraw from Ilasaa and sends messengers to the other generals of his clique that an Atraelish army is on the move. By the time the 1st Corps of the Atraelish Army arrives in Ilasaa on March 3rd, the Seonmi forces are more than 50 miles out from the city.

Course of the war[edit | edit source]

Invasion of Saeyri[edit | edit source]

On March 3rd, the Imperial Army of the United Atraeth Republic crosses the Ruuvatan-Seonmi border. The force numbered just over 600,000 soldiers, with reserves of 200,000 ready to deploy from Province of Pegard.

With little communication between the rival Seonmi Warlords, the Saeyri armed forces in the northern territories took a week to mobilise in response, as Deizaim Zhoujan marched his army east towards the Laptsai Mountains. By March 11th, the Atraeth Army had advanced three hundred miles into Saeyri, with their troops reportedly marching through dozens of Saeyri villages and towns with little resistance.
