“ | ...It feels cruel that in all this time we've bickered about the most trivial of political theories the right has appeared to get along swimmingly well. I'm sure it hasn't, but, still. It feels like nothing can be done to stop it, y'know? | ” |
–Proud, in Four Accounts of Struggle, January 1892 |
Dȥorge Proud (Virassian: Դժոռգե Պռոօդ) was a revolutionary anarcho-syndicalist and member of the Syndicalist Republican Alliance who served as a Grey Guard militia during the Virassian Civil War.
History[edit | edit source]
Personality[edit | edit source]
Proud was regarded by those who knew him as a highly political person with an uncompromising determination to survive, an attitude sharpened by his own lived experience of racism and working class oppression. He was frequently embroiled in passion when he spoke his mind - enthusiasm and hatred alike - though was never caught without a strong sense of irony and stabbing sense of humour. Proud was one to learn more from experience than through reading, and although he never ceased in absorbing literature to improve himself politically, he remained consistent in relating his life's learnings to his lived experiences.
Ideology[edit | edit source]
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Proud was often considered unfortunately Visser-looking despite his mixed Visser-Virassian heritage, bearing characteristics typical of Vissers such as pale skin, slender facial features and red hair, earning him a lifetime of discrimination by the Virassian state and society throughout most of his life, with only Amulndian-esque curls and dark eyes breaking the trend. Though Proud owned a few common blazers, due to the precarious nature of his working life he was very frequently seen wearing beige work clothes and overalls, some of which bore marks of his various jobs, including dried paint, leaked engine oil stains, and numerous tears sewed back together.
Relationships[edit | edit source]
Throughout much of his life, Proud maintained a close friendship with Perrie Josephson, and was particularly responsible for politicising him and convincing him of anarchist politics.
